a movie set in Tbilisi

Our annual AllVol conference's today, and yesterday we had a meeting in Tbilisi. My friend Mike found a cheap apartment somewhere, and when we got there, a movie was being filmed outside our window. Whenever we left or came, there were people just standing around telling us be quiet. I was shushed several times.

Friends Guram, Ia, Saba, and Solome, cool folk from Telavi.

This is called haushi or something like that. It's oily soup with unappetizing meat. I had one bite.

This is the road from which I turn right to get to my house.

My friend Levani, donning a smart scarf. He knitted that himself!

Telavi

Telavi this weekend, looking like a soup. The main street of the city here underwent a European makeover last year, and even included a nominal red bike path, which has since begged the question, how many bikes should a bike path have, if a bike path should have bikes?

Isani Metro Station

A picture of Isani Metro station, also the marshrutka station to anywhere west of Tbilisi. This is from whence I always have come, and where I always end up. I took this Sunday on my way home, after having dragged my camera to Tbilisi, and hauled it around all weekend, only to have the sky clear up that morning.

My host brothers. That's Giorgi on the left asking Zaza for help with his homework.

Thursday, October 31, 2013

This is my host-grandfather Elizibar, tending our still. It is making "tcha-tcha" - a spirit made by distilling wine.

Our balcony. That's corn there, obviously. They pile it up all over the place. And those are my clothes, waiting to be dry.

Workers installing the cabinets in our new kitchen, which has only ever been concrete floors and walls. Still, concrete can be cozy.

is this me, having only just decided to create a photoblog?
